Parlour: Work the key for Adebayor

6:22pm, 8 August 2008

Ray Parlour has warned Emmanuel Adebayor he will have to work hard to regain the respect of the Arsenal fans, but is sure it will only be a matter of time before they will be singing the striker's name again.

Adebayor bagged 24 league goals in his first full season with the Gunners last year, helping his team finish third in the Barclays Premier League, but annoyed fans by doing little to quash rumours of a possible move to Barcelona over the summer.

And former Arsenal star Parlour said: "It's a big plus point that Adebayor has decided to stay at the club. He's a big player for us so I'm pleased he's committed himself to the club."

Peter Crouch is out to get his Portsmouth return off to a flying start - by helping shoot down Barclays Premier League champions Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday in the Community Shield.
The giant England striker returned for a second spell at Fratton Park following an £11million transfer from Liverpool, and is set to form a little-and-large partnership with Jermain Defoe as Pompey look to build on their FA Cup triumph.

He said: "I've got good memories of the Community Shield - I scored the winner in it two years ago, when Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1."
Arshavin frustrated at move hitch
6:22pm, 8 August 2008
Zenit St Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin has revealed his frustration at the delay over his proposed move to Tottenham.
The UEFA Cup holders have rejected formal bids from Barcelona and Tottenham for Arshavin, and even raised the Russian's price tag to a reported 27 million euros, with the 27-year-old now fearing he has been priced out of the market.

"This price tag has frightened everybody off. Only Tottenham have dared continue negotiations. But as it stands nothing has developed," Arshavin told Sport Express.

Mbia claims Everton interest
6:22pm, 8 August 2008
Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia claims he is the subject of an offer of "more than 8 million euros" from Everton.
The 22-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Cameroon at the Olympic Games, has demanded the Brittany club allow him to leave and claims he has already spoken to Everton boss David Moyes about the move, which could net him 1.5 million euros a year.

"I really like Pierre Dreossi, the club's general manager, and I believe that is reciprocal," Mbia said. "At the end of last season, he promised me that if there was a good offer, he would accept that I could leave."

File closed on Moutinho - Sporting
6:22pm, 8 August 2008
Sporting Lisbon president Filipe Soares Franco insists midfielder Joao Moutinho will not be leaving the club this summer.
Everton target Moutinho publicly pleaded to be allowed to move to Goodison Park after Sporting turned down a 16 million euro bid from the Merseysiders and reports suggest that Everton have made a second offer for the highly-rated 21-year-old, but Soares Franco insists Moutinho is staying at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

"I can guarantee one thing," he told Portuguese sports daily Record, "Joao Moutinho was made at Sporting, he has all the affection of the entire club, we all like Joao Moutinho and want him to stay at the Alvalade. The file on Joao Moutinho is closed."

Bangura sent home from tour
6:22pm, 8 August 2008
Watford have confirmed midfielder Al Bangura was sent home early from the pre-season tour of Austria for disciplinary reasons.
The club successfully fought a high-profile campaign to keep the 20-year-old in the country last season after he was threatened with deportation to Sierra Leone. But he will now not be involved against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

A club statement said: "The club can confirm Al Bangura returned home early from the recent tour of Austria for disciplinary reasons. These have since been dealt with internally."
Johnson ready to fight for place
6:22pm, 8 August 2008
Andrew Johnson expects to be challenged for his place at Fulham despite becoming the club's most expensive signing of the summer.
The England international had no hesitation about moving back to London from Everton, and will attempt to reproduce the form which previously made him a goalscoring hero in the capital for Crystal Palace.

"Competition is healthy," he said at his unveiling on Friday. "I did not want to come to this club and have an easy training session. I wanted to come here and fight for my place in the team."

Agent: Robinho keen on Chelsea switch
6:22pm, 8 August 2008
Robinho's agent claims his client is unhappy at Real Madrid and would jump at the chance to move to Chelsea.
The London club made a formal offer for the 24-year-old Brazilian on Thursday night - believed to be in the region of £20million, but the bid is likely to be rejected with the Spanish champions thought to be holding out for a figure nearer £27million.

But Robinho's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, is hoping some middle ground can be found, saying in Spanish newspaper Marca: "Robinho is very angry with the way the Madrid bosses are dealing with him. He is getting affection from (Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe) Scolari. He knows Robinho well and calls him every day."
